Eye & skin protection

Sun reflecting off the water can be bright and make it hard to see. Polarized sunglasses are highly recommended to avoid glare and damage to eyes.
You will also want to consider wearing some form of sunscreen. Many recommend somewhere around a 30 or 70 SPF for an activity like Miami deep sea fishing. Reapply it as needed or at least a couple times throughout the day.

Proper clothing and shoes

All seasons welcome fishing here at our shores, making a Mimi deep sea fishing trip a possibility year-round.

The clothing and items you bring may depend on the time of the year. But in general, you will want to bring:

  • Comfortable shorts or pants
  • Baseball or fishing cap
  • Non-slip footwear with a closed toe (i.e. rubber-soled sneakers or boots)
  • Raincoat
  • T-shirt & long sleeve shirt or jacket
  • Windbreaker
  • Child lifejackets
  • Gloves that won’t get soaked or wet and dry quickly

Chapstick

Wind and sun can cause lips to dry out and even crack. Chapstick is great to have on hand to relieve dryness.

First aid kit

First aid kits specifically for outdoor sports, angling, marine use, and boating are out there and can be purchased. Many of these contain the basics, such as pain relievers or aspirin, bandaids, and cotton balls. However, you may want to add a few extra items for your Miami deep sea fishing trip, including bug spray, sea sickness pills, and any other medication you may require.

Hand sanitizer

Having hand sanitizer on hand is helpful. Particularly before and after eating.

Snacks, drinks, and food

Snacks, food, and drinks can be a great thing to have, particularly the longer you are out on the water deep sea fishing in Miami for a larger part of the day.

Water and other hydrating drinks are highly suggested, along with the following snacks and food:

  • Cold sandwiches
  • Trail mix
  • Oranges
  • Crackers
  • Salads

Be sure to avoid anything too heavy or greasy before going on your deep sea fishing trip. And no bananas! These are seen as a bad luck omen on boats, particularly for those focused on fishing.

Have fun on your trip

The primary purpose of your deep sea fishing trip in Miami is to have fun and catch a fish, of course! And it can be a fantastic time for everyone. But, unfortunately, once the boat is out on the water, it isn’t so easy to simply return and fetch an item or two you might have forgotten.
Keeping these items in mind and doing a little research for your own personal benefit can definitely make a great trip even better and provide you with all the personal comforts you need before leaving the shore.
